As summer is winding down and fall is approaching I am filled with nostalgic memories of football games, bonfires, hayrides and cider mills. It also means “Back to School” time too. Your child may have a new wardrobe, school supplies, and sports equipment, but do they have a healthy mouth and the education to maintain it?
Regular dental exams to prevent dental problems is a must!
We suggest children see their hygienist every 6 months to prevent dental problems. We also suggest fluoride treatments and sealants to help prevent dental decay. Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing is essential.
Also, as cold season hits, remember that changing toothbrushes every three months or after an illness is recommended for good oral care (a good reminder is to change when report cards come out.) Eating healthy lunches and snacks is important also.
Constantly look for ways you can cut back on sugary foods and soft drinks. Lastly, make sure your child is wearing a properly fitted mouth guard for sports participation and gym class so it can save them “tooth trouble” on the field.
We’re hoping the school year starts out great for your family. If you haven’t scheduled your child’s cleaning and exam yet, now is the best time to call us! Give us a ring at (586) 771-1990 now to get their appointment set up.
